A few words on the Snow at Powder Mountain Ski Resort

Powder Mt. does not maintain formal snow statistics, but in-season reporting over the past decade shows about 10% more snowfall than nearby Snowbasin, which translates to a healthy 350 inches per season. There are very modest skier numbers over a massive 5,000+ acres of terrain, some of it accessed by surface lifts, snowcat and bus shuttles. Thus powder usually degenerates from sun or wind before it is tracked out by skiers. Consequently Powder Mt. is the one of the premier areas for powder skiing in North America.

Accumulation and Preservation

Powder Mt's lowest lift is at 6,900 feet and there is little snowmaking. It averages about 2/3 open at Christmas and is less than half open at Christmas in about 30% of seasons. Powder Mt. has roughly equal shares of north, east and west facing terrain, so much of the powder can set up quickly in late season. January and February are the most reliable months at Powder Mt.
