Double black Sugarloaf, ME
High Rigger (Back Side) drops 416 vertical feet over 1,118 feet of skiing, with a steepest pitch of 37° about 910 feet below the top. That's steeper than 54% of the 2,251 double black runs we've measured in North America, and the 6th steepest of 148 named runs at Sugarloaf. It faces east.
Facing east at an average 22°, High Rigger (Back Side) gets about 94% of the winter sun that flat ground at Sugarloaf does, December through March. That's sunnier than 65% of the runs we've measured, and the 4th sunniest named run at Sugarloaf. Its top sits at 4,210 feet.
With little slope to hide behind, it takes nearly the full winter sun of open ground: powder settles and turns heavy sooner after a storm, and spring snow softens early. Shading from ridges and trees isn't counted yet.
