Double black Diamond Peak, NV
Solitude Canyon drops 1,134 vertical feet over 4,254 feet of skiing, with a steepest pitch of 28° about 2,760 feet below the top. That's steeper than 19% of the 2,251 double black runs we've measured in North America, and the 6th steepest of 30 named runs at Diamond Peak. It faces west.
Facing west at an average 16°, Solitude Canyon gets about 103% of the winter sun that flat ground at Diamond Peak does, December through March. That's sunnier than 74% of the runs we've measured, and the 5th sunniest named run at Diamond Peak. Its top sits at 8,500 feet.
With little slope to hide behind, it takes nearly the full winter sun of open ground: powder settles and turns heavy sooner after a storm, and spring snow softens early. Shading from ridges and trees isn't counted yet.
